Term deposit calculator
Australian term deposits pay a fixed rate for a fixed term. What you actually end up with depends on how often interest is paid and what you hand back to the ATO.
Enter your deposit, rate and term to see what it earns.

How this is calculated
Every assumption behind the numbers above, so you can check them against what your bank quotes you.
- Interest paid at maturity
- Simple interest, calculated as deposit x rate x term in years. Nothing compounds.
- Interest paid periodically
- Assumed to be reinvested at the same rate, so it compounds monthly, quarterly or annually to match the payment frequency you pick.
- Tax on interest
- 2026-27 resident marginal rates including the 2% Medicare levy: 0%, 17%, 32%, 39% and 47%. The whole amount is taxed in one year, which slightly overstates tax on multi-year terms.
- Early withdrawal
- Not modelled. Results assume the deposit is held for the full term.
- Rate changes
- The rate you enter is fixed for the term, which is how term deposits work. Rollovers are not modelled.
This calculator is for general information only and is not financial advice. It does not account for fees, bonus-rate conditions, or your personal circumstances. Rates shown are the ones you enter, not offers. Tax rates are the 2026-27 resident rates including the Medicare levy and exclude offsets such as the low income tax offset.
