How this is calculated

Long projections are sensitive to small assumptions. Here are all of them.

Contributions
12% super guarantee on your salary plus any extra you enter, both reduced by the 15% contributions tax. Salary is held flat in real terms, so no promotions and no career breaks.
Returns
Your expected return less fund fees less 2.5% for inflation, compounded annually. That gives a result in today’s dollars.
Retirement income
The balance drawn down to zero at age 90, still earning the same real return. Minimum drawdown rules and the age pension are not modelled.
Not included
The age pension, insurance premiums inside super, the concessional cap, the transfer balance cap, and tax on investment earnings inside the fund.

This calculator is for general information only and is not financial advice. Projections over decades are estimates, not forecasts, and a single bad sequence of returns near retirement changes the outcome materially. It excludes the age pension.
