# Clients

> Add clients, send invites, and work from each client's page.

A client is a person, couple or business your firm works with. Each client has their own portal, checklist, documents, accounts and message thread.

## Add a client

**1. Open New client**

Go to **Clients** and select **New client**.

**2. Fill in the details**

* **Client name** and **Email** are required.
* **Second person** is optional. Enter a name, for couples.
* **Checklist to send**: pick one of your [checklists](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/checklists.md), or **No checklist**.

**3. Choose whether to invite now**

* With **Send invite now** on, select **Add and invite**. The client gets an email from your firm.
* With it off, select **Add client**. You can invite them later.

The person who adds a client becomes the client's advisor.

> [!TIP]
>
> Select **Preview portal** in the New client dialog to see the portal your client will get.

## Invites

The invite email comes from your firm, as "Your Firm via Redbark". Its button opens the client's portal.

* An invite link works once.
* An invite link is valid for 14 days.
* After that, the client signs in with their email and a code. See [Client portal](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/client-portal.md#signing-in).

### Send or resend an invite

* For a client you haven't invited, select **Invite** at the top of their page, or **Send invite** in the row's "…" menu on the Clients list.
* For a client who hasn't joined yet, select **Resend invite** in the "…" menu.

Each new invite replaces the last one. The old link stops working.

### Copy an invite link

To share the link yourself, open the row's "…" menu on the Clients list and select **Copy invite link**. Then select **Copy new link**.

The link sent before stops working, and a new one is copied for you.

## The Clients list

The list shows every active client with these columns:

| Column | What it shows |
| - | - |
| **Client** | The client's name |
| **Contact** | Email and phone. Select the email to copy it. |
| **Advisor** | The team member who looks after the client |
| **Status** | Where the client is up to (see below) |
| **Checklist** | Items done, like "2 of 6", and a mark when something is waiting for you |
| **Last activity** | When something last happened |
| **Net worth** | Their net position, with a trend line |

Select the column headings for Client, Last activity or Net worth to sort. Use **Search clients** to find someone by name. Select **My clients** to show only the clients you look after.

### Statuses

| Status | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Not invited** | Added, but no invite sent yet |
| **Invited** | Invite sent, client hasn't joined |
| **Waiting on client** | The client has open items to do |
| **Needs you** | The client submitted something for you to review |
| **Up to date** | Nothing is waiting on anyone |

### Pin a client

Pinned clients show under **My clients** in the sidebar. To pin, hover a row and select the pin, or choose **Pin to sidebar** in the client's "…" menu.

## The client page

Select a client to open their page. The header shows their name, contact details and net position.

The buttons at the top:

* **Message**: opens the Messages tab.
* **Request**: ask for **A document**, **Answers to questions** or **Bank connections**, or send **A checklist**. See [Checklists](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/checklists.md#one-off-requests).
* **Invite**: shows instead of Request until the client is invited.
* **"…" menu**: **Edit details**, **Pin to sidebar**, **Resend invite**, **Export a report** and **Remove client**.

### Tabs

| Tab | What it's for |
| - | - |
| **Overview** | Items that need your review, the checklist, money, latest messages, and the client's details |
| **Checklist** | Each checklist sent to the client, item by item. Review, approve or send items back. See [Checklists](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/checklists.md). |
| **Money** | Accounts and balances. See [Money](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/money.md). |
| **Documents** | Files the client shared, and files you upload. See [Documents](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/documents.md). |
| **Messages** | Your thread with the client. See [Messages](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/messages.md). |
| **Reports** | Reports made for this client. See [Reports](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/reports.md). |

## Edit a client

Open the client's "…" menu and select **Edit details**. Change the **Client name** and select **Save**.

## Remove a client

**1. Open the menu**

Open the client's "…" menu and select **Remove client**. Or use **Remove** in the row's "…" menu on the Clients list.

**2. Confirm**

Select **Remove**.

What happens:

* The client loses access to their portal.
* Their invite links stop working.
* Their documents and messages are kept.
* They leave the Clients list.
* They no longer count toward your plan's client limit.

> [!WARNING]
>
> You can't undo removing a client in the app.

## Client limit

Your plan includes up to 20 active clients. Removed clients don't count. When you reach 20, you can't add another until you remove one. See [Billing](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/settings/billing.md).
