# Ask

> Ask questions about one client or all of them and get answers drawn from your firm's records, with sources.

Ask lets you put a question about your clients in plain words and get an answer from your firm's own records: accounts and balances, transactions, documents and the values read from them, checklists and messages. Every answer shows the records it used.

Press **⌘J** (Mac) or **Ctrl+J** (Windows) from anywhere in Advisor to open Ask, or choose **Ask** in the sidebar.

## Asking a question

**1. Choose who it's about**

Below the question box, choose **All clients** or pick one client under **One client**.

**2. Type your question**

Type into **Ask about a client, or all of them**. Press Enter to send, or Shift and Enter for a new line.

**3. Read the answer**

While it works, Ask shows each step it takes, such as reading a client's accounts. When it's done, the answer appears with numbered sources.

**4. Follow up**

Type into **Ask a follow-up** to keep going in the same chat.

Some questions to start with:

* "Who hasn't sent their payslip yet?"
* "Whose bank connections need reconnecting?"
* "Cash held across all clients"
* "Which clients have checklist items open?"
* "Largest debts across all clients"

> [!NOTE]
>
> A chat stays with the client its first question was about. To ask about someone else, start a new chat.

## Sources

Each claim in an answer is marked with a number. The numbers match the **Sources** listed under the answer, such as an account or a document. Select a source to open it in Advisor.

Ask only cites records it actually read. Any reference it can't back with a record is removed.

Ask sets out what the records show. It doesn't give personal financial advice or tell you what a client should do.

## Messages to clients

Ask can draft messages to clients, for example reminders about open checklist items. It never sends them on its own.

**1. Review the drafts**

A card under the answer lists each message with the **Client**, the **Item** and how long it has been **Waiting since**.

**2. Send or cancel**

Select **Send** (the button shows the count, such as **Send 3 messages**) to post each message to its client's message thread, from you. Select **Cancel** to send nothing.

The card then shows how many messages were sent, or **Not sent.** See [Messages](https://redbark.com/docs/advisor/messages.md).

## Answer actions

Under each answer you can:

* **Copy** the answer.
* **Ask again** to get a fresh answer.
* Mark it as a **Good answer** or **Bad answer**.

Select **Stop** while an answer is being written to end it.

## Managing chats

Your chats are listed in the Ask sidebar, with **Search chats** to find one. A chat's menu has:

* **Rename**
* **Pin** or **Unpin**
* **Delete**

Deleting a chat removes its questions and answers. Messages already sent to clients stay in their threads.

## Limits

| Limit | Value |
| - | - |
| Question length | 4,000 characters |
| Questions per person | 12 a minute, 300 a day |
| Whole firm | A daily usage limit |

Daily limits count the last 24 hours. If you hit a limit, Ask tells you when to try again.

You can't attach files to a question, edit a question after sending it, or export a chat.

## Privacy

* Your chats are yours. Nobody else in your firm can see them.
* Ask only reads your own firm's records. A chat about one client only sees that client.
* Ask runs in Australia. Client data used to write an answer is not kept or used for training by the service that writes it.
* Advisor keeps the text of your questions and answers, the steps and the source names. It doesn't keep the raw records Ask read.
* An answer can quote a balance or a transaction. That answer stays after the client stops sharing the bank, until you delete the chat.
