New Zealand Bank Connections Are Here

Redbark has always been the local option for getting Australian bank transactions into the tools you actually use. From today, that covers New Zealand too. You can now connect your NZ bank accounts to Redbark and sync them everywhere Australian accounts already go.

New Zealand connections run through Akahu, New Zealand's open banking platform. It plays the same role Fiskil and the Consumer Data Right play for our Australian coverage: you authorise access with your bank through Akahu, and Redbark never sees your login. Access is read-only, so Redbark can read transactions and balances but can never move money or change anything in your accounts.

We went through Akahu's accreditation and app review process to get here, covering how we handle tokens, revocation and data teardown when you disconnect. If you revoke access, the connection is torn down on both sides.

10 banks at launch

Banks: ANZ New Zealand, ASB, BNZ, The Co-operative Bank, Heartland Bank, Kiwibank, Rabobank New Zealand, SBS Bank, TSB, and Westpac New Zealand.

That covers the majors and most of the rest of the market. Amounts come through in NZD, and everything else works exactly like an Australian connection.

Same destinations, same architecture

An NZ connection behaves like every other Redbark connection. Sync transactions and balances to:

Google Sheets — rows appended automatically as transactions post
Airtable and Notion — turn your bank feed into views and dashboards
YNAB — transactions land ready to categorise
Actual Budget, Sure and Firefly III — via SimpleFIN and native integrations
Webhooks and the REST API — build on live NZ bank data
AI assistants — query your accounts from Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client

The same pass-through architecture applies. Your transactions flow from your bank through Redbark to your destination and are never stored in our database. We keep only the account metadata, consent records, and encrypted tokens needed to make the sync work. The details are in our security post.

How to connect

Go to Connections, click "Add Connection", and choose NZ Banks. You'll authorise access with your bank through Akahu, pick the accounts you want to share, and land back in Redbark with your accounts ready to sync. From there, create a sync the same way you would for any other account.

If you have both Australian and New Zealand accounts, they can land in the same spreadsheet, budget, or database side by side.
